CCE Hybrid Systems provide a solid business case for any off-grid site that is currently running on diesel generators 24/7. Our hybrid systems have been proven and verified at savings over 70%.

It makes sense considering:

Our Hybrid SolSite system is also upgradeable to Solar, Wind or other renewable energy sources in the field….which brings us to our point, Hybrid First, Solar Second.

For Off-Grid sites, Hybrid systems should come first. This is simply due to the cost benefit of hybrid only vs. hybrid solar.

For Hybrid Only, lets assume a 2kW peak load site, with CAPEX for the site (equipment + delivery +install) at around $25,000.

This investment of $25,000 provides total OPEX savings of 65%, with an ROI of 8.5 months and TCO savings of 58%.

If you include solar in this equation, the numbers change. With solar, there is an efficiency rating that is typically around 20%, therefore providing only 20% of the rated peak power of the panel, during the peak time of day. This of course depends on the position of the site in the world, but lets assume that you can get an output of 1kW during the peak time of day, with less as the sun is between its peak period.

Assuming optimal configuration, this would equate to approximately 10% more in total OPEX savings, however, the TCO & ROI would not look so favorable. Based on including a solar system, you will have a greater CAPEX associated with purchasing the solar panels, solar frames and associated materials/civil works. That is assuming you have enough space on the site.

This means the CAPEX is increased significantly for only a marginal increase in OPEX savings.

Therefore, if an operator can spend $25,000 per site, and with minimal adjustments to the site, achieve 5 year TCO savings in excess of 58%, why not roll out Hybrid on EVERY off-grid site in your network as the first step. This will assure maximum savings with minimal spend and operational efforts.

THEN, once rolled out completely, it is time to evaluate how to improve even further using Solar, Wind or any other renewable energy source that is cost-effective. Additionally, as solar prices continue to decline and solar technology continues to improve, lets not rush it just yet.
